Below, photo from one of the earliest pipe band scrapbooks…. It’s of a news article that appeared in the local Rockville, Maryland newspaper on Thursday, October 7, 1965. The words in fine print are ” An age old
question as to what a Scotsman wears under his kilt is seemingly answered at the expense of Peary High School Piper Dave Spurlock, as Jackson Weaver of WMAL investigates. Enjoying the scene in front of the Washingtonian (hotel) prior to the recent UGF Kickoff Luncheon, are from left: Mrs. Betty Roberts, residential chairman of the UGF drive, Art Ridgway (66) on the drum, Weaver, Joe Bartlett (66) of the pipers, Spurlock (66) of Peary, Frank Hardin of the WMAL team, and Ann Evans (68) of the piper band in the background.”
